Sound card set to Sound Blaster AWE32, IO 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1, sounds just like I remember it! 1.0.1 () CD-ROM (installed to HDD) Mouse and music working OK. Tested on Windows XP SP3, with DOSBox 0.72, SC2000 v. Reseted SFX setup to Sound Blaster Compatile with HEX 220 - IRQ 7 - DMA 1 and it worked! but not all the time, seems to be rather random. (No CD boot, just install) Mouse and music worked OK but SFX were lacking. Tested on Windows XP SP2, with DOSBox 0.72.

The full version will have a "SOUND" subfolder, and will have options for configuring sound when running "install.exe" If you are not getting any sound at all, and running "install.exe" does not provide options for configuring sound, you may have the demo version. I've found the demo version of SimCity 2000 to be packaged without sound capabilities. Tested DOSBox 0.72 on Ubuntu 8.10: Intrepid Ibex Video, sound, and music all work fine after running "install.exe" and switching video to "VESA" and Sound to "Sound Blaster". Not running as administrator and UAC is enabled. Occasional music glitches, but still usable.

Tested DOSBox 0.72 on Windows Vista Ultimate 圆4 Video, sound, and music all work fine after running "install.exe" and setting Sound to "Sound Blaster Pro 2" for music and "Sound Blaster Pro" for SFX. This game has been tested on the environments listed below: If you require support for general issues, see the performance guide and FAQ.

Please update this article if you have information which will let this game work with sound and music. Setting the correct IRQ/DMA/port settings does not seem to help. It’s possible Hacking Jules could release it for jailbreakers, though. The game includes an INSTALL.EXE which sets the video and sound cards, however for the sound card, it reports a failure to verify the Sound Blaster, and other, cards. Apple specifically forbids emulators in the App Store. This isn’t going to be available for most people to download.

It can handle up to Mac OS 8.1, as Apple switched to PowerPC processors after that. The software appears to be a port of Basilisk II, which can emulate a Mac with a 680×0 processor. The larger screen of the tablet could make this a way to play classic Mac games for which there’s no modern version. That said, the video also shows Hacking Jules’ emulator running on an iPad. Even if there was a real need for a 20-year-old operating system, the screen is too small for most drop-down menus. To be clear, this isn’t being suggested as anything practical. These games appear quite playable in the video posted on YouTube by Hacking Jules: To really put it to a test, the emulated Mac runs Warcraft II and SimCity 2000. That includes the third-party applications. And after that, performance of the emulated device is quite good. Mac OS boots up a bit slowly, but that was typical for real Macintosh computers back then. So the device is running a program that emulates a processor that runs an operating system that itself can run applications written for that processor architecture. (It’s a bit like a native English speaker doing real-time translations between French and Chinese.)Īnd the iPhone does it very well. Keep in mind, though, that the ARM-based iPhone X is shown emulating a completely different 680×0 processor architecture. (Apple introduced it in 1998.) And some might not be impressed that an iPhone can run an OS designed for 40 MHz processors. Case in point: A new video shows an iPhone X running Mac OS 8.1 as well as a couple of games.Īdmittedly, Mac OS 8.1 is hardly a modern operating system. Give an iPhone a larger display and it would make a fine desktop PC. Because phones are small, it’s easy to underestimate how powerful they are.
